Introduction to Geology
Geology is the study of the Earth itself. But contrary to popular belief, geologists don't just look at rocks all day. Of course rocks are important to study, but geologists also study earthquakes, volcanoes, glaciers, and the structure of the Earth from the crust all the way to the core. What kinds of techniques do they use, and what have they discovered? Let's find out together in this geology series!

Wellsite Geology Life. What geologists see at an oil rig.
I am a geologist and this is what I see when I go out to the field. This is a small oil drilling rig, drilling a horizontal well. Wellsite geologists usually assist geologists in the office by being their eyes and ears on the rig. When rock samples come up to the surface wellsite geologists analyze them and make a report at the end of every drill. Since drilling is a 24hr operation there are usually 2 wellsite geologists on-site at all times. A day and night geologist.
